Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 7, 2026
1. Introduction
LiveMarks (available for iOS and Android) is designed and engineered to operate entirely offline and respect your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines our strict minimal-data principles, explains how device permissions operate, and clarifies what data is (and is not) handled by the application.
2. Zero Logging & No Personal Data Collection (App)
LiveMarks operates under a strict Zero-Logging & Offline-First architecture:
- No Personal Data Collection: The LiveMarks application does not collect, transmit, monetize, or share personal data with external servers or third parties.
- No Activity Logging: We do not log which audio files you import, what you listen to, what markers or notes you write, or how often you use the app.
- No Cloud Accounts: LiveMarks does not require or offer user registration, usernames, passwords, or cloud synchronization.
- No Advertising or In-App Tracking: The app contains no advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, behavioral monitors, or third-party analytics code.
2b. Website Analytics (livemarks.biz Only)
This marketing website (LiveMarks.biz) uses Google Analytics with Google's Consent Mode v2 to understand visitor trends. Google Analytics collects aggregated, anonymous metrics such as page views and referral sources. No tracking takes place without your consent. You can opt in or opt out at any time using the cookie banner. See Cookies & Tracking below.
2c. Operating System & App Store Diagnostics
LiveMarks embeds no third-party telemetry, crash reporting, or logging SDKs (e.g., Firebase, Crashlytics, or Sentry). Any diagnostic data is handled strictly at the operating system level by the respective platform app stores:
- Apple App Store & TestFlight (iOS): If you have opted in at the system level (via Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Share With App Developers), Apple may provide developers with aggregated, anonymous crash logs and performance statistics through App Store Connect. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
- Google Play Store (Android): Google Play Console automatically generates aggregated crash reports and Application Not Responding (ANR) summaries in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
These operating-system reports contain technical device metadata (such as device model and OS version) and never contain audio recordings, file names, marker notes, or personal user data.
3. Data Stored Locally (On-Device Sandbox)
All app data resides exclusively inside your device's private sandbox storage (the iOS app container or Android private storage). This data never leaves your device unless you manually initiate an export or AirDrop transfer. This includes:
- Audio Files: Copied securely into the app's sandboxed storage upon import.
- Markers & Notes: Sample-accurate position markers, text notes, tags, and color selections.
- Technical Audio Attributes: ITU-R BS.1770 LUFS loudness, True Peak dB, sample rates, and bit depths computed entirely on your device CPU.
- Settings & Preferences: UI preferences (theme, language, display mode, tuning character) stored in standard local preferences (
UserDefaultson iOS,DataStoreon Android). - Project Structure & Playlists: Local project grouping and saved playlist orders.
Monotonic Counters: The app avoids storing absolute calendar dates/timestamps inside the database or export files, using monotonic sequence counters instead to protect your temporal privacy.
4. Audio Files & AirDrop
- AirDrop (iOS): You can share exported WAV files (with embedded cue markers) or project ZIP archives directly via AirDrop. This transfer uses Apple's native, peer-to-peer system sharing mechanism (
UIActivityViewController) and does not pass through any external server. - Original Files Protected: When importing from the iOS Files app or external storage, LiveMarks copies the audio into its private sandbox and never modifies or deletes your original files.
- Files App Access (iOS): With document file sharing enabled, your exported WAVs and projects appear in the iOS Files app under On My iPhone > LiveMarks for your convenience.
- No Cloud Uploads: LiveMarks never uploads your audio files to any cloud or remote server. Local transfers (via AirDrop, local SMB shares, or Wi-Fi Web Studio) occur strictly peer-to-peer across your local network.
5. Audio Recordings & Microphone Access
LiveMarks allows you to record audio and capture real-time timeline markers using your device microphone.
- Explicit Access Only: The microphone is activated only when you explicitly press the Record button.
- Local Processing: Recorded audio is encoded and stored directly into your device's local sandbox storage.
- Zero Transmission: LiveMarks never streams, transmits, monitors, or uploads microphone audio.
6. Permissions & System Rights
LiveMarks requests only the absolute minimum permissions necessary to function:
| Permission | Platform | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
MicrophoneNSMicrophoneUsageDescription | iOS / Android | Recording audio takes and real-time markers directly onto the timeline. Recordings remain strictly on your device. |
Local NetworkNSLocalNetworkUsageDescription | iOS / Android | Connecting with desktop synchronization tools, Wi-Fi Web Studio browser interface, and local SMB/NAS shared folders (strictly local subnet). |
| File Import / Storage | iOS / Android | User-initiated selection of audio files via the system Document Picker or storage manager. |
Background AudioUIBackgroundModes: audio | iOS / Android | Permits uninterrupted audio playback and lock-screen controls when the screen is locked or the app is minimized. |
Permissions We Never Request: LiveMarks does NOT request access to your Camera, Photo Library, Contacts, Physical Location, Health Data, or Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
7. Local Network Features (Wi-Fi Web Studio & SMB Shares)
LiveMarks includes optional local network features designed to connect your devices without any cloud intermediary:
- Wi-Fi Web Studio & Desktop Sync: You can connect a desktop web browser to LiveMarks over your local Wi-Fi network to browse and export projects, stream audio tracks, download recordings, and manage cue markers.
- Strictly Peer-to-Peer: The embedded local HTTP server runs directly on your device. All data is transferred directly across your local Wi-Fi subnet; no data is routed through the internet or remote servers.
- Security & PIN Authentication: Access requires an on-device generated 8-character Key / QR code (
X-LiveMarks-Token). The server enforces automated rate-limiting lockout (5 failed attempts trigger a 60-second cooldown) to prevent unauthorized local access. - User Control: The server is only active when enabled by the user and shuts down automatically when toggled off.
- SMB / NAS Network Shares: You can optionally import and export audio across local network shares (SMB/CIFS). Network activity is strictly initiated by the user, restricted to the local subnet, and uses only guest or user-provided paths without harvesting credentials.
8. Third-Party Libraries & Apple Privacy Manifest
The application is built using standard system frameworks and trusted, self-contained open-source libraries that operate 100% locally:
- iOS: Apple AVFoundation (AVAudioEngine), SwiftData, Apple StoreKit 2.
- Android: Jetpack Compose, Media3 (ExoPlayer), Room SQLite, Hilt, DataStore.
Apple Privacy Manifest (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy) Compliance:
In full compliance with Apple's developer requirements, the iOS app includes an embedded Privacy Manifest declaring:
- Tracking: Set to
false(no cross-app tracking). - Collected Data: Set to
None(zero data collected). - Declared Required Reason APIs:
UserDefaults(ReasonCA92.1for local preferences),FileTimestamp(ReasonsC617.1andDDA9.1for local file metadata),SystemBootTime(Reason35F9.1for gesture calculation), andDiskSpace(ReasonE174.1to prevent disk overflow during recording).
9. In-App Purchases & Monetization
LiveMarks offers an optional one-time Pro upgrade to unlock unlimited projects, DAW WAV marker export, and advanced mastering tools.
- Processed by Platform Providers: All transactions are handled securely through Apple's native StoreKit 2 (iOS) or Google Play Billing (Android).
- No Financial Data Handled: The developer and the LiveMarks app never receive, process, or store your credit card details, bank information, or billing address.
10. Data Security & Backups
- Because LiveMarks does not operate remote servers, your files cannot be exposed via cloud database breaches.
- Users are encouraged to maintain regular backups of their audio files and exported project archives (
.zip).
11. Children's Privacy
LiveMarks does not collect any personal information from any user, including children under the age of 13. The app is completely safe for all audiences.
12. Changes to Privacy Policy
Any updates to this Privacy Policy will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Because LiveMarks does not collect email addresses, please check this page or the in-app link for updates.
13. Contact
If you have any questions or privacy inquiries, please contact the developer at contact@LiveMarks.biz.
14. Cookies & Tracking (Website Only)
The LiveMarks website uses the following cookies:
- PHPSESSID: Standard session cookie for site operations.
- Google Analytics: Anonymous, aggregated visitor metrics, loaded only upon explicit user consent.
You can adjust your cookie consent preferences at any time by clearing your browser cache or re-selecting your choice on the banner.
15. Your Rights & Data Deletion
Under GDPR, CCPA, and Apple App Store guidelines, users have the right to access and erase their data. Because LiveMarks stores zero data on remote servers, there is no online profile or database record for us to delete.
You have direct, immediate control over all local data on your device:
- In-App Deletion: Delete individual tracks, markers, or entire projects within the app at any time.
- iOS Device Removal: Deleting the LiveMarks app from your iPhone or iPad (via Settings > General > iPhone Storage > LiveMarks > Delete App) instantly and permanently purges all sandboxed audio files, markers, database records, and settings from the device.
- Android Device Removal: Clear data via Settings > Apps > LiveMarks > Storage > Clear Data, or simply uninstall the application.
For GDPR questions or assistance, contact contact@LiveMarks.biz.
